In the
Spotlight: continued
At the
ACBR’s 2017 Retail Update, Ben facilitated a discussion
among industry experts to explore the question of
whether these changes are mere shifts in styles or an
outright existential crisis.
Panelists included Jeff DeHart of SJ Collins Company, a
developer and operator of grocery anchored shopping
centers; Arahn Hawkins, the Atlanta Real Estate manager
of The Kroger Company; Amy Fingerhut, a retail leasing
broker with CBRE; and John Mori, President of regional
retail tenant, Mori Luggage.
The
panel explored changes and challenges in the retail
market and what each panelist (or their organization)
was doing to respond to these changes. Mr. Collins
shared examples of how his organization treated
customers as clients in order to respond to market
changes. Ms. Fingerhut assured the audience that while
retail was changing, and while retail may look different
in the future, it wasn't going away. Mr. Hawkins
shared a few of the technological advances that Kroger
stores are rolling out while Mr. Mori discussed his
company’s efforts to bring experiential elements to
their retail operations.
Mr.
Pargman positioned the panel as a continuation of the
February 2017 ACBR Seminar he also planned and moderated
titled “Creating Spaces - Where We Live Work and Play”
arguing that retail is the key limiting ingredient in
mixed-use developments. Mr. Pargman was name the ACBR’s
February Member of the Month for this effort.
